Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty

Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG), also known as the Accordion procedure, or the incisionless gastric sleeve, is an innovative, non-surgical, minimally invasive weight loss procedure.

Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty, also known as ESG, the non-surgical sleeve, or an accordion procedure, is a weight loss procedure that involves reducing the size of the stomach. Unlike gastric sleeve surgery, no part of the stomach is removed during this procedure. Instead, sutures are used to make the stomach smaller.1

ESG leaves no external scarring or external sutures because it is performed via an endoscope inserted through the mouth. The procedure helps patients lose weight by reducing the size of the stomach, which therefore reduces the amount of food that patients need to feel full.

Benefits of Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty*

*Individual Results May Vary

Better Health

ESG may improve weight-related conditions including Type 2 Diabetes, joint pain, high cholesterol, hypertension and sleep apnea.*

Quicker Recovery

Patients may heal faster and experience less postoperative discomfort than traditional surgical procedures.*

Reversible

Reduces the size of the stomach without removing the stomach.

Incisionless

Leaves no visible scarring, as no external incisions are made.

The Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Procedure

During the Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty, Dr. Doucette will use an endoscope to assist and carry out the procedure. There will be a camera within a long flexible tube which provides a visual of inside the stomach. Using an endoscopic suturing device, the surgeon reduces the size of the stomach without removing any part of the stomach. The patient is able to feel full with less food, and may digest food more slowly, resulting in weight loss.

Recovery After ESG

Most patients resume normal activities and light exercise within one day after having the Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty . After the procedure, patients will follow provided dietary guidelines and work closely with our registered dietitian to ensure ongoing success.

Am I a Candidate for Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty?
