Prior to my Gastric Sleeve surgery, I was unable to fully live my life. I felt like I was stuck in a “fat suit”. I couldn’t move well. I was constantly consumed by my weight. It led to extreme depression. I couldn’t sit in typical chairs. I couldn’t play and engage with my children the way I would have liked to. I was gaining weight at an alarming rate, and nothing seemed to slow it down. My blood pressure was out of control even on medication. I was miserable.

My insurance would not cover any type of bariatric surgery. I called and fought it for months. There was no hope that they would cover it. I had called around to local surgeons and the price was 4xs the price that I ended up paying with Alabama Surgical Associates. After doing my research I found Dr. Doucette and made my first consultation. I was pleased to find all of the information matched up to what was on the website.

Living in Ohio and seeking medical help in Alabama could have been very difficult, but I found it to be very convenient. The phone consultations were easy to make and to join. All of the staff was very informative and helpful. I especially liked my dietitian.

I LOVE being present in my own life. I love being able to focus on something other than my weight. The list of things that I can do now, that I couldn’t do before is so unbelievably long. This seems silly, but I love being able to cross my legs, or sit “Criss Cross Applesauce” on the floor with my kids or dogs. I wasn’t able to do either of those things before.
