Before surgery, I was 313 lbs. I was on two different blood pressure medicines. My quality of life was mediocre at best and I hurt all over. What led me to begin this journey was when I was unable to go grocery shopping without having to stop and rest because of back pain.

I thought about surgery off and on for years – but seriously considered surgery for about a month. When I no longer could do simple things, like grocery shop or stand for more than 10 minutes without pain, I knew it was time to do something.

From the beginning the team at Alabama Surgical Associates was fantastic. At first, I was a little put off by Dr. Doucette because he didn’t seem like he cared. BUT I quickly realized that it was precisely because he cared so much about my health that he was so blunt and honest with me. I have come to appreciate that about Dr. Doucette.
The dietitians were there to answer all of my questions and had so many ideas for all the challenges I faced. I never felt like they were judgemental or doubted my ability to be successful. The rest of the staff has also been amazing. From the front desk staff to the nurses and the back office staff. They have all been so willing to make this work and ensure my success throughout the process. I cannot be happier with my choice to us Alabama Surgical Associates.

I am 7 months post op. I have lost over 120 pounds and went from a size 24 to 14. I have more energy, a better quality of life and I no longer take blood pressure medicine. Best of all, I can stand for long periods of time, walk for hours, and grocery shop without any back pain! I can enjoy life again.
