I had done well in the past, losing weight when I tried; however, I’ve never kept it off. I had severe psoriasis triggered by stress, gained 60 lbs from the steroids, and could not do anything for several months. I was diabetic. My A1C was 8.1, I am 5’4,” and my highest weight was 263. I took Metformin for diabetes, blood pressure medicine, and thyroid medication. I felt bad all the time, had zero energy, and my self-esteem was at an all-time low.
I was actively trying to get a life insurance policy online, and these companies were claiming “no health questions” and “no medical exams needed.” Still, they immediately denied me after I entered my height and weight. I realized I wasn’t expected to live a long life with my high BMI! I saw a friend on Facebook post her before and after gastric sleeve surgery photos and messaged her. She recommended Dr. Doucette. I was scared but knew that I needed to do something to be healthy again. I researched and joined some support groups over a few weeks, then called and made an appointment with AL Surgical Associates.
I was treated very well by all of the employees! Everyone at AL Surgical Associates helped me in some way during this process. They ensured I understood all the requirements of my insurance company covering my surgery at my first appointment.
At six months post-op, my A1C is now 5.9. (Down from 8.1!) I no longer have to take diabetes medication or blood pressure medication!!! I had taken blood pressure medication for 12 years! My thyroid medication has been reduced. My energy level is so much higher, my back doesn’t hurt, and I can sleep through the night now!
