Our weight loss options include medical and surgical treatments. In addition, we specialize in minimally invasive techniques to perform general surgery procedures such as breast surgery, hernia repair, gallbladder removal, colon resection, splenectomy, and stomach surgery.

Our Surgeon
Our board-certified bariatric surgeon is Dr. Darrell Doucette. He performs weight loss surgeries such as gastric bypass, gastric sleeve, gastric balloons, duodenal switch and gastric band, in addition to laparoscopic surgery for anti-reflux and hernia repair.

Despite the growing prevalence of obesity and related chronic diseases, many physicians are not sufficiently trained in obesity medicine or comprehensive weight management practices. As part of Alabama Surgical Associates’ commitment to effectively treating obesity, Dr. Doucette is certified by The American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM) as ABOM diplomates. Fewer than 5% of bariatric surgeons nationwide have the distinction of ABOM diplomate certification, which confirms a physician’s specialized training in the practice of obesity medicine and use of evidence-based approaches in obesity care. Dr. Doucette is proud to utilize his skills and knowledge as an ABOM certified surgeon help patients live healthier lives.
Our Dietitians
Our in-house Dietitians, Leighann Rice, Alycia Reed, and Johanna Key offer ongoing nutritional guidance and counseling to help our bariatric surgery patients develop a healthier relationship with food. They are highly experienced in a range of nutritional topics and are committed to helping patients live healthier lives. Leighann and Alycia share valuable resources with patients that can help them achieve long term, sustainable weight loss.
Our Team
Our practice has many support staff who are integral to creating a positive change in our patient’s lives. Patients will first meet our patient coordinators, who are experts in navigating insurance and financing questions. When having procedures performed, patients will be under the specialized care of our surgical staff who partner with nurses and anesthesiologists who pride themselves on being safe, efficient and thorough.
